Running the night

You decide when the night starts: you open the door. If you do nothing, it opens automatically at the start time. Musicians who scan your venue's QR code come in and wait until that moment. In the room there's a bar at the top showing what's playing. Tap it or pull it down, and Tonight opens. Tonight starts with four counters: the free spots on the next song, who's waiting, the suggestions and who's here. An amber edge means something is waiting for you. Below that are five circles: Setlist, Add, Announce, Check in and Played. Add suggests songs from this jam that haven't been played tonight yet. At the bottom are Hand over, Agenda and Close.

  1. 1

    Go to the room

From an hour before the start time, it says "Go to the room" at the bottom of the jam. You can then set up songs. On your own night you don't play: as host you don't sign up and don't check in.

  2. 2

    Open the door

While the door is closed, you see who's in, with the button "Open the doors". After the tap, a bar above your buttons counts down ten seconds; with "Stop" the door stays closed. Then the night starts for everyone at once. If you tap nothing, the door opens automatically at the start time.

  3. 3

    Hang up the QR code

That code points to your venue and not to one night, so it stays valid. Scanning works from an hour before until half an hour after the night. After closing, nobody can check in any more.

  4. 4

    Put songs on the setlist

Every song on the setlist has seats. Musicians choose a seat themselves; a plus button by an open spot below the sentence, or "Setlist" in Tonight, opens the setlist, and there you use "Choose someone" to put someone on a free seat. If nobody's on the first song yet, you ask the room. If a house band is playing, tap "Start with house band"; below the sentence it then says "house band" at the spots the band plays.

  5. 5

    Switch and warn

"Switch to the next one" ends the current song and calls the next group to the stage. Want them ready in advance? During the song, tap "Warn the next group": they get a heads-up to get their instrument ready, and the real call follows at the switch. Warned too early? Take the heads-up back within ten seconds with "Undo" above your buttons.

  6. 6

    Hand over hosting

Need to leave, or want to play yourself? In Tonight, tap "Hand over" and choose someone who's in. They get five minutes to say yes; until then you host. If they're on stage, they finish the song first. After that you're an ordinary guest and can check in.

Tip. Closed the night too early? Tap "Undo" within ten seconds. After closing you can use "Email me the evaluation" to send everything to yourself: the numbers, who stayed in the queue and what could be better next week. That email is only for you.
