This is an English translation. The Dutch version of this privacy statement is the binding one; where the two differ, the Dutch text applies.
1.Who processes your data
Jamfinder is the data controller: we decide which data is processed and for what. You can reach us through the contact form at jamfinder.nl/contact, even without an account. You can send questions about your data, a request to erase it or a complaint there.
2.What data we keep
As little as possible. What isn't there can't leak.
- Your email address and an encrypted password, to log in and to send you email.
- Your name, and if you fill them in: your town, a short text about yourself, a photo, your instruments and genres.
- For your town we only keep the place name, never your address. Besides the name of the place we keep the point on the map where that place is, because we use it to work out how far a jam session is from you. That point belongs to the place and not to you, and other users don't get to see it.
- Which jam sessions you signed up for, and with which instrument.
- If you have a venue or stage, its address. That's a business address that you make public yourself.
- If you turn on notifications: a technical identifier of your device, so we can send you a message.
- If you report or block someone, we keep that. Only we see a report; a block is seen only by you and us, never by the person blocked.
- We keep a question you ask in the app, and its answer, for six months, so we can see what's missing from the guide. Don't put names or phone numbers in it.
- If something goes wrong in the app, we get an error report. It contains your account and an identifier of your device. We keep it for thirty days, and only use it to fix the error.
- Our server keeps a log of what comes in for ninety days. Your IP address is shortened in it.
We don't ask for your date of birth, your phone number or your home address.
3.Why we keep it
To show you jam sessions near you, to let you sign up, and to send you a message when something changes about a session you signed up for. You give consent for this when you create your account, and we record that consent with the date and the version of this text.
If anything essential changes in what we do with your data, you see the updated text first and we record your agreement again, with the new version number. As long as you don't give that agreement, the version you did see stays in place.
4.What email you get from us
We only email about Jamfinder itself. We never send advertising for others.
- About your account: a welcome email, and an email if you forget your password or change your email address. You can't turn off those last two, because without them your account can't be recovered.
- About jams: when a jam you signed up for is cancelled or moved, when a new jam appears near you, and every week an overview of the jams near you.
- About what you send in: when something happens with a jam you passed on, an offer to host or a venue you submitted.
- As a host: the evaluation of your night, if you ask for it.
At the bottom of every email about jams there's a link to turn that kind of email off. You don't have to explain anything.
These emails are part of the service you created an account for. That's why we send them without separate consent, and that's why you can always turn them off.
5.If you pass on a jam
You can pass on a jam in the app and on jamfinder.nl. On the site you don't need an account for it.
- We keep what you fill in about the jam: the venue, the town, when, the venue's contact details and your comment. We use it to check the tip and to get in touch with the venue.
- Without an account your email address isn't needed. If you leave it, we email you once: whether the jam goes into the agenda, or why not. If your tip looks like spam, we don't email.
- We erase that address thirty days after we've handled your tip. If your tip is still with us after ninety days, we erase the tip and your address.
- To curb abuse, we remember for a week a code we make from your IP address. We don't keep the address itself.
- Only we see who passed on a jam. The venue never gets to see your name or your address.
- This may stay in our backups for up to fourteen more days.
We do this because you ask us yourself to check the jam and to let you know how it turned out. No tick box is needed for that.
We use the venue's contact details to invite the venue to Jamfinder once. That email says how we got their address, and that they can unsubscribe with one click. We remember who unsubscribes, so we don't email them again. If we turn down a tip that came in without an account, we also erase the venue's contact details after thirty days. If we've already emailed the venue, we remember their address, so they never get a second invitation.
Want to know what we keep about you, or want us to erase your address now? Ask through jamfinder.nl/contact, with the address you gave. That applies to a venue too.
6.Who can see it
Your name and your profile are visible to everyone who is logged in to Jamfinder. You agree to that when you create an account. It isn't a setting: at a jam session you need to be able to see who you're playing with, and a list in which everyone is called "Musician" helps nobody. What other users see is your name, your town if you fill it in, your short text, your photo, your instruments and your genres.
This stays invisible to other users:
- Your email address. Only we see that.
- The point on the map that belongs to your town. We work out how far a session is from you ourselves; you see the result, nobody gets to see the point. The name of your town is on your profile, though, if you fill it in.
- Who else signed up for a session. You only see how many of each instrument are coming.
- Who you've blocked or reported.
- The people who manage the session on behalf of the venue see who signed up. There can be more than one: a venue can share the management of its agenda.
- On this website, which you don't need to log in to, only the sessions and the venue's details can be seen. Musicians' profiles can't: they're there for users among themselves, not for the open website or for a search engine.
- A Jamfinder admin can see everything in your account except your password: your profile, your email address, your sign-ups and what happens during a jam session. They do this to help you, to review a report or to follow a night; we don't ask for consent for that and you don't get a message about it. We record every look internally, with who and when. If an admin changes something in your account (hiding your profile, blocking your account, correcting a detail), you always get a message about it with the reason, and it's listed in your settings under "What was done to your account".
7.Who else receives it
We sell nothing and we share nothing for advertising. What does happen: to make the app work, some data passes through parties that do this for us. These are all of them, named after what they do. Want to know exactly which companies they are? Ask through jamfinder.nl/contact.
- Our hosting provider, where the server Jamfinder runs on is located and where the email comes from. The server is in the European Union.
- The service that sends our push notifications. It gets the text of the message and the address of your device.
- Apple and Google, who carry that last bit to your phone. Without them a push notification doesn't arrive.
- A public address service of the Dutch government, where we look up place names when you fill in your town. Only the letters you type go there, not who you are.
- An AI service, which provides a language model. If you use an assistant that works with AI, put a text on your profile, pass on a jam or ask a question in the app, that text goes there: to help you write, to answer your question or to check whether it's allowed. Sometimes your instruments, genres and level go along, and for a jam the venue's contact details. Not your name or your email address. That service is in the United States and doesn't use these texts to train its models.
We only share what's needed to make Jamfinder work. Anyone who processes your data for us may only use it for what we ask, and must keep it confidential and secure it properly. We put that in writing with each of them. We do as much as we can to make the sharing safe. You agree to this statement when you create an account.
8.What you control yourself
There's no switch to hide your profile from other users. There used to be one and it was removed: it contradicted what you agreed to when you created your account. This is what you can do:
- Change or clear everything. You fill in your town, your short text, your photo, your instruments and your genres yourself, and you can just as easily remove them again. Only a name is still needed; pick one that musicians know you by.
- No notifications for now. In the app under Settings. You then no longer get messages on your device. Your profile stays visible: this is a pause button, not a hide button.
- Closing your account. Also under Settings, and it can't be undone. Your profile, your photo, your instruments, your sign-ups and your notifications disappear, and if you manage a venue, your venue profile and your session series too.
A moderator can hide a profile if something is wrong. That's a decision by us and not a button of yours, and you always get a message about it with the reason.
9.How we secure it
We don't promise absolute security; nobody can deliver that. This is what we do:
- All traffic is encrypted, and the database is stored encrypted.
- The database is in the European Union.
- Who may see which data is laid down in the database itself, not just in the app. If someone bypassed the app, the database would still stop them.
- Admins can only get in with a second step besides their password.
- Your photos are not publicly on the internet.
- In case of a data breach we report it within 72 hours to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch data protection authority, as the law requires.
10.Your rights
You can view and change your data in the app. Under Settings you can also download it as one file, to take it elsewhere. That's your right to data portability.
You can delete your account completely at any time, in the app under Settings. Then your profile, your photo, your sign-ups and your notifications disappear.
You can also withdraw your consent, also under Settings. Be aware that this amounts to the same thing: without consent to process your data we can't keep an account for you, so withdrawing deletes your account. The app tells you so before you do it.
Two things remain. If a moderator ever made a decision about an account, that decision is kept with the reason, without reference to the person; without that, someone who misbehaves could wipe their tracks by closing their account. And when an admin has looked at your data, that is kept too, so that we can show who looked if you ask.
If you disagree with something, let us know first through a help request. If we can't sort it out together, you can file a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
If you no longer have the app on your phone, you can still have your account deleted. jamfinder.nl/en/delete-account explains how, and that address works without logging in.
11.Age
Jamfinder is intended for people aged 16 and over.
